The main agencies involved in making decisions regarding admission and stay in the United States are the U.S. State Department through its Embassies and Consulates abroad, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (USCBP).  Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is the agency charged with enforcing immigration laws.

Embassies and Consulates issue visas for admission to the United States, while the USCIS and U.S. Customs and Border Protection govern the actual admission and regulate extensions and changes or adjustment of status in the United States.  Some visas are issued only after a prior approval from the USCIS – some require review of the client’s application at the Embassy or Consulate.

Henning Law has extensive experience in dealing with all agencies involved in the decision making process.

The issuance of a visa does not guarantee admission to the United States.  Authorized stay in the U.S. – even with a multiple entry visa - is limited to the time allowed upon entry and marked on your I-94 card.  An unexpired visa does not mean that a person is here legally if the I-94 has expired.  Different visa categories entail different time allowed at entry – so make sure you carefully check your admission documentation.

Our goal is to help our clients establish new lives for themselves and their families in the U.S.
